Phase One of Tablet Roll Out is Complete

The first phase of our tablet roll out is complete (see photos in the photo rotator).  Students will only use the iPads at school for the next few weeks as we work out some final issues with off campus filtering and the "take home" process.

Following the lead of other districts rolling out tablet plans, we have offered an optional Tablet Protection Plan.  For long term district students, the plan provides a unique opportunity for parents to potentially receive more value back than the cost of the protection plan if a child graduates from Gideon School District and doesn't have a claim on the protection plan.  This is an optional plan.

While the initial roll out put tablets in the hands of students in grades 4-7.  Our overall goal is to have tablets in the hands of all students in grades 4-12 by the end of the 2012-2013 school year (subject to available funding).

Additional iPad Information

We have added a link to an iPad information page toward the bottom of the menu block right above "Online Resources".  You will find documents relating to the GSD iPad program, helpful hints, general iPad information, and a Frequently Asked Questions link.  This will be a valuable resource as we move forward with our iPad implementation.  Our focus is on using the iPad as an instructional tool to promote creativity and 24/7 learning opportunities for our students.

At the bottom of the iPad information page you will find the short video of Dr. Roger Wen and student Jesse Zink talking about the importance of technology such as the Gideon iPad Program.

The Frequently Asked Questions page also details the process for submitting questions that are unanswered by the iPad Handbook and current FAQ list.

You may access the FAQ through the iPad Information link above or temporarily through this link:  iPad FAQ

Top 10 By 20
Missouri Proud

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has launched Top 10 by 20, a major improvement effort that aims for student achievement in Missouri to rank among the top 10 states by 2020.

Check out the "Top 10 by 20" information on the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary web site at:  http://dese.mo.gov/top10by20/

School Messenger Notification System

Starting September 7, 2011, we will be making daily absence calls to the parents of all students with an unaccounted absence.

Starting Monday, September 12, we will be making a weekly Food Service/Lunch Balance telephone call.  The telephone call will be a courtesy to indicate when your child's lunch balance has reached a "low balance."  In addition, a courtesy "negative balance" call will be placed to remind parents when a student lunch balance has fallen below zero.

We will also use the School Messenger notification system to send out important school announcements, school closing announcements, and other vital information.  The building principals and counselor will be able to use the system to provide reminders about important events.

The next phase of the roll out will include the ability to receive text messages, follow us on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, and a portal where you can "self-manage" contact methods and contact information.

Gideon iPad Roll Out

Students in grades 4-7 received their iPad and began using them.  The students were very excited to have this new learning opportunity and a chance to extend their educational opportunities outside of the school day.

Mission

The mission of the Gideon School District is to educate students to become responsible, productive participants in society.

Welcome

Welcome to the Gideon School District web site. As a district, we have made a commitment to utilize technology to enhance the educational process in our quest to help our students, teachers, and community members become the "life-long learners" demanded by today's society. It is our goal to use technology to open new educational opportunities to our students and community, to centralize district contact information, to provide access to public data and information concerning the Gideon School District, to establish a secure means by which parents can have timely access to information about their child's educational progress, to enhance instructional planning and assessment, to manage the district's curriculum, and to more efficiently manage district resources as well as implement other innovations as they become available.
